The Middle Creek Energy Hub is a proposed 1.45 GW renewable energy hub, comprising wind, solar, and storage technologies. It is located around 15 km from Wandoan and Guluguba and approximately 60 km north of Miles in the Western Downs Regional Council local government area.
The Project location is driven by the strong wind and solar resources in the region. The project is strategically located within the Western Downs Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). A REZ connects wind and solar projects in a coordinated way to optimise renewable energy developments and network infrastructure.
Middle Creek Energy Hub will be a significant contributor to achieving the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan’s 80% renewable energy target by 2035 and Queensland Government’s commitment to net zero emissions by 2050 as legislated in the Clean Economy Jobs Act 2024.
The Project’s outcomes align with several strategies outlined in the Western Downs Regional Council Economic Development Strategy 2023-2028, including creating increased opportunities for youth employment and attracting and retaining workforces in the Western Downs. Additionally, the Project will help deliver affordable, clean and reliable energy to households and businesses.
The Middle Creek Energy Hub will endeavour to drive collaborative investment in the communities of the Western Down region of QLD. Set to power approximately 700,000 homes with clean, affordable energy when fully operational and create employment and procurement opportunities for local residents and businesses. The project will help drive the region to a sustainable future.
