Cubico and Western Downs Regional Council have signed a Community Benefit Agreement (CBA) for the proposed Middle Creek Energy Hub.
The agreement establishes a framework for long-term investment in local infrastructure, services and community initiatives, helping to ensure the project delivers meaningful and lasting benefits for the region.
The agreement provides for potential annual community benefits of up to $1.485 million, indexed annually to CPI, with final contributions based on the project’s approved connection capacity and subject to relevant project milestones.
Funding priorities have been informed by community feedback gathered through consultation activities and the Social Impact Assessment. These include:
Wandoan Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) effluent irrigation scheme
Housing diversity and affordable housing
Improved access to local GP services and visiting specialists
Aged care services
Community transport and childcare
Community sponsorships and grants
Scholarships and educational support
The agreement includes ongoing monitoring, reporting and three-yearly reviews to ensure community needs and priorities are updated.
What happens next?
Establishing the CBA is an important milestone, but it does not mean the project is approved. Middle Creek Energy Hub remains subject to applicable planning, assessment and other approvals, with community contributions dependent on the project proceeding and reaching relevant milestones.
Cubico would like to thank the local community and those who have shared their feedback throughout the consultation process. Your local knowledge and input have helped shape the priorities reflected in the agreement.
